A snippet from the latter site (why Dustin need's financial help getting to the Deaflympics site in Slovakia):

"After some questions about whether the games would be proceeding at all, tryouts were only held late in December of 2010. With the games starting on February the 18th, I haven't had very long to save up for the costs of the trip. Although family and friends are able to help, this will only cover a small portion of the trip."
