catching up on the vegan recipe plugs: shepherd's pie and chocolate chip cookies

For some reason, March seemed to put me in the mood for posting good recipes that we've tried. Since then? Well, we've still been eating. And we have tried out a few new recipes over the past few months. All were definitely edible. Some were even delicious!

I've finally decided it's time to start catching up on the recipe posting – starting off with what I'll call the "Heavy Metal Adam's birthday extravaganza" meal.

(I should qualify what I mean by "extravaganza" here. It's not often I cook by myself, so if more than one thing emerges from my efforts, and none of it was pre-made, and it tastes good, well, that qualifies as an extravaganza in Laura's cooking terms.)

March comfort food

I'm not sure anyone really needs an excuse to seek out comfort food. But if an excuse is needed, this March (with its crummy weather and various other minor and not-so-minor afflictions and catastrophes) is as good as any. We've had great success with two comfort food recipes lately, so I thought I'd share.

November(+) recap and round-up

I usually tweet what I've been writing for other venues, but I may have missed an item or two this month... With that in mind, along with a nod to the non-twitter folks, a month-end review of reviews (and other stuff) seems in order.

This is a modest list, but probably the last of my reviewing for 2011. It's all year-end coverage from here on in! (and check the latest Exclaim in print for the beginnings of it)

• Cradle of Filth Evermore Darkly (my experience of the visual component was delayed - fun stuff, British humour, solid live performance, but not an absolute must-have)

The bitter sidekick brought this entertaining resource to my attention: a heavy metal vegan cooking channel on youtube.

I haven't watched any yet (cooking really isn't my thing) but Trevorkian sat at the computer for quite a while today viewing several of Heavy Metal Kitchen's videos. I think his pick of the day was "Seitan with Satan," featuring a recipe for homemade seitan (dubbed here the "most evil" of dishes).
